Do you struggle to follow through with your commitments? When you don’t accomplish what you set out to accomplish, do you feel like a failure?
I am a “recovering” perfectionist and I am here to tell you that you are not a failure, you do not need to re-commit yourself, you do not need to try harder, you need to step into the feeling of failure and ask yourself “Why did I give up on that commitment?” I want you to act like a toddler and don’t take No for an answer. Keep asking yourself “Why?” at least 3 times and make yourself answer the question each time.
The first answer might look like…”I didn’t workout because I slept in.”
The second answer might be…”I didn’t workout because I stayed up too late the night before.”
The third answer might look like… “I didn’t workout because by the time I looked at the clock, I knew I wouldn’t have time to do my full work out, so why even try.”
If you get to the fourth answer, it might look like…”I didn’t workout because I thought ‘It won’t really matter if I workout or not, my body never changes.’”
Do you see how you got different and deeper answers every time? Our brain really wants to answer the questions we give it. Our brain is smart and will keep digging if we keep asking.
So for this once, I am going to tell you that it is good to act like a toddler! Keep asking WHY, you will be surprised at what is actually your problem.
